600MW natural gas-powered data center campus proposed in Hubbard, Texas
A 600MW natural gas-powered data center campus has been proposed by Nexus Data Centers for a 2,000-acre site outside Hubbard, Texas, between Highway 171 and County Road 3369. The behind-the-meter facility would use natural gas turbines and backup diesel generators, and the company has already applied for permits for the power infrastructure. Project financing, timelines, and end customers have not been disclosed, though the scale suggests a hyperscaler target. Local officials were told the development could generate “significant tax revenue” and create hundreds of construction and operational jobs.
Nexus has partnered with AirJoule Technologies to deploy water-harvesting systems that use waste heat from onsite power generation and data center operations to extract water for use in cooling and electricity production, with deployment planned for the second half of 2026. “Identifying Nexus as our AI hyperscale collaborator underscores the progress we’ve made under our June Memorandum of Understanding and our path toward a first deployment of an industrial-scale water purchase agreement,” said Matt Jore, AirJoule Technologies CEO. Nexus CEO Ivan Van der Walt added: “Water sustainability is a critical consideration for data center operators. AirJoule’s waste-heat-to-water approach provides a superior solution by utilizing thermal energy we are already generating to produce high-purity water for electricity production and cooling systems, and the WPA framework aligns well with our financial objectives.”

Equinix gets green light for data center campus at former paint factory in Slough, UK
Equinix has received outline planning approval to redevelop the former AkzoNobel paint factory site in Slough, UK, into a data center campus after the local council granted permission for the change of use. The project will occupy around half of the Wexham Road site and is planned to include three data center buildings, each with dedicated data halls. Equinix must now submit a detailed application covering the final design, scale, and landscaping of the development.
The site was originally a paint manufacturing facility dating back to the post-World War I era and was sold by AkzoNobel in 2019, later being purchased by Slough Council for redevelopment before being sold again to an unnamed data center buyer — later revealed to be Equinix. Council leader James Swindlehurst previously described the sale as “probably the single biggest beneficial transaction I’ve ever seen” for the council. The project adds to Equinix’s extensive footprint in Slough, where it already operates multiple data centers and has additional facilities in development.
