Goodman announces plans for 100MW powered shell in Frankfurt, Germany
Real estate development firm Goodman is to develop a data center in Frankfurt, Germany, on the site of a former newspaper printing plant.
The company this week announced that it has recently purchased the 4.5-hectare brownfield plot in Neu-Isenburg, south of Frankfurt, and plans to develop it into a 100MVA powered shell facility, known as Goodman FRA II.
Christof Prange, head of Germany at Goodman, said: “Goodman’s focus on strategic infill locations means that we have sites that are attractive for a wide range of uses including data centers.
Many of our sites are located close to consumers and have access to power – important ingredients in being able to serve the data needs of the growing digital economy. Moving into data center development in Germany was a natural evolution for us to complement our wider portfolio of logistics facilities, light industrial parks, and multi-level developments.”
Rack Centre to build 12MW data center in Lagos, Nigeria
Rack Centre is planning to build a 12MW data center in the Ikeja area of Lagos, Nigeria.
The company announced the planned construction at a recent media parley and data center tour of the current facility in Lagos.
The construction is a part of the company’s ambition to expand its data center capacity in West Africa ten-folds.
The company is set to hold a groundbreaking event on April 27.
Green Mountain signs 10MW deal with cloud provider in Oslo
Green Mountain is expanding its data center campus outside Oslo, Norway.
The company this week announced it had started construction of a new 10 MW expansion at its OSL1-Enebakk site (previously known as DC3-Oslo).
The new two-story, 5,800 sqm (62,430 sq ft) building is an extension to two existing buildings dedicated to an ‘international cloud provider.’
“We are very excited about all the activity going on at our Enebakk campus right now. Especially that our client has renewed their trust in us and chosen to expand their activities here,” said Svein Atle Hagaseth, CEO of Green Mountain.
Data4 begins work for third building at Madrid campus in Spain
Data4 is developing a new data center building at its campus in Madrid, Spain.
“A third data center [is] coming soon in our Alcobendas Campus,” the Brookfield Infrastructure-owned company posted on LinkedIn this week. A pre-existing building was demolished in a month to make way for the new data center.
Launched in 2020, the Madrid campus is located at Avenida de la Industia 15 in Alcobendas. At full-build out, the eight-hectare campus will host six buildings totaling 70MW.
According to a video on Data4’s site, DC01 offers 14MW of IT power across 6,500 sqm of data hall space, DC02 offers 6.6MW of IT capacity across 3,000 sqm of white space, while DC03 also offers 6.6MW of IT capacity across 3,000 sqm of white space.
Scala Data Center commences operations at Rio de Janeiro data center in Brazil
Scala Data Center has commenced operations at its new Rio de Janeiro data center.
The Brazilian data center provides a hyperscale capacity of 7.2MW and currently houses one anchor tenant.
The SGIGSM01 facility is located on the São João do Meriti campus, which will offer 55MW of IT capacity at full build-out.
The new data center was built using Scala’s ‘FastDeploy,’ a proprietary design and construction methodology using modular structures that have been manufactured by Modular Data Centers. The company claims this allowed it to deploy ‘in record time’, with construction starting in August 2022 and finishing in April 2023.
Vantage proposes data center to replace church in San Jose, California
Vantage is proposing to develop a data center adjacent to a number of Google buildings in San Jose, California.
First reported by SiliconValley.com via city planning documents, Vantage is proposing to develop a data center on 9.8 acres at 105 Nortech Parkway in San Jose’s Alviso district.
Specifications of the facility haven’t been disclosed.
The site is currently home to a Christian church. Founded in 1991, Redemption Church owns two sites in San Jose and Greenville, South Carolina.
Colt DCS to Launch its Fourth Data Center in Inzai, Japan
Colt Data Centre Services (Colt DCS), a global hyperscale and large enterprise data center solutions provider, has today announced the commencement of construction of its fourth major data center in Inzai City, Japan.
Inzai City is located in the Chiba Prefecture, north-east of Tokyo, Japan. This region is one of the most competitive areas of data center real estate for enterprise, research, and technology customers.
Colt DCS’ Inzai 4 Data Centre is located 600m from Colt Data Centre Services’ existing Inzai Campus and forms its fourth development in Inzai. This addition marks the company’s implementation of its global expansion strategy.
Inzai 4 represents the second development under the joint venture between Fidelity Investments and Mitsui following the announcement of the grand opening of the first development in Osaka Keihanna in March 2023.
KIO Networks expands into Spain with sustainable data centre
KIO Networks has unveiled a new Tier IV data centre, located in the Valencian Community, an autonomous community of Spain.
The KIO Valencia data centre is a commitment on the parto f KO Networks to respect the environment, going beyond the standard obligations, as well as compliance and being firmly committed to technological innovation.
It is the first data centre in Spain to use 100% ecological refrigerants (C02) in 100% of its critical cooling systems, in preparaton for the mandatory use of refrigerants as set out in the F-GAS Regulation (EU 517/2014).
It is also the first data centre in Spain to use geothermal air conditioning as renewable energy for its cooling systems.
Vantage announces second data center campus in west London
Vantage Data Centers is developing a second data center campus in London, UK.
The company this week announced the development of a second data center campus, known as LHR2, with an investment of £250 million ($310.1m).
Located in Park Royal in west London, LHR2 will consist of a single six-story data center that will deliver 20MW of IT capacity across 194,000 square feet (18,000 sqm). The facility is set to launch in early 2025.
“Expanding our presence in London, the largest of the FLAP data center markets and one of the largest global markets, enables Vantage to meet the unprecedented demand for critical IT capacity and helps strengthen the region’s digital infrastructure,” said Antoine Boniface, president, EMEA for Vantage Data Centers. “Vantage’s unique ability to rapidly scale to this magnitude continues to set the company apart from the rest of the industry.”
EdgeConneX to build 7.5MW data center in Israel
EdgeConneX is expanding its data center footprint in south Tel Aviv, Israel.
The company is building a third data center in the country, which will add 7.5MW of IT capacity.
The new data center will be located in Rishon and will complement the company’s existing presence near Tel Aviv, including the two sites in Herzliya in the north of the city and Petah Tikva to the east, bringing the total capacity to 14.5MW.
The company says that the new Rishon Facility will offer ‘extensive fiber and peering options’ with access to local and international Internet service providers.
Stack files to build two data centers in San Jose, California
Stack has filed for permission to expand its data center campus in San Jose, California.
First reported by SF Yimby, the San Jose City planning commission will this week consider Stack’s request to build two data centers on a plot at 2400 Ringwood Avenue and 1849 Fortune Drive in Santa Clara County.
The company is requesting to rezone the approximately 9.78-gross-acre site from the IP Industrial Park Zoning District to a TEC(PD) Planned Development Zoning District.
Stack aims to demolish two existing buildings totaling approximately 135,000 sq ft and construct two four-story data centers – known as SVY05 and SVY 06 – totaling approximately 522,200 square feet (48,515 sqm), and a four-story 136,575 sq ft manufacturing building.
Empyrion DC secures financing for construction of Gangnam data center in South Korea
Empyrion DC has secured financing from three South Korean financial institutions for the construction of its planned Gangnam Data Center (GDC).
The loan will be provided by KEB Hana Bank, Hana Capital Co Ltd, and the National Credit Union Federation of Korea, and was arranged by KEB Hana Bank and Hyundai Asset Management Co Ltd.
“This Financial Close is a key milestone for GDC, as it brings us closer to being ready-for-service for our customers. We look forward to GDC, helping alleviate the data center supply shortage in the greater Seoul area,” said Mark Fong, chief executive officer of Empyrion.
First announced in August 2022, the GDC will be Empyrion’s second data center and will be located in the Gangnam region of Seoul, South Korea.
Equinix seeks to build 30MW+ data center in Slough, UK
Equinix is planning to build a new 30MW+ data center on the Slough Trading Estate in Berkshire, outside London.
First reported by the Royal Borough Observer, the company filed for planning permission for LD14 late last year. The Slough planning commission met yesterday.
Update: the project was given unanimous backing by councilors.
Set on just under a hectare, the site currently consists of a single-story building known as Units 9-13 on Banbury Avenue that is set to be demolished by landowner Segro.
Conapto secures SEK 400m in funding for Stockholm data centre
Conapto, the Swedish data centre operator backed by Marguerite, has secured a SEK 400 million ($38.6 million) term loan to finance the construction of a new data centre in South Stockholm.
Kommunalkredit, a specialised bank for infrastructure and energy financing, acted as sole mandated lead arranger and underwrote the 7-year facility.
The newly secured funds will be used to finance the fit-out of the first phase of its new 8,000 sqm data centre, which once operational will provide 20MW of power capacity. The facility will also comply with environmental standards, such as the use of 100% renewable energy and connection to the district heating network to reuse excess heat from its operations.
“We are delighted to announce this financing with Kommunalkredit. We acquired the company with the ambition to carry out a large expansion plan consistent with our sustainable investment strategy,” said Michael Dedieu, managing partner at Marguerite.

Edged Energy and Merlin Properties near completion of three ultraefficient data centres located on the highest capacity fibre connections in Europe.
All three new Edged Data Centers feature zero-water cooling, 100% renewable energy and 1.15 guaranteed power usage effectiveness are nearing completion in Barcelona, Madrid and Bilbao-Arasur. At the same time, a fourth project is also under development near Lisbon.
Combined, these data centres will provide up to 236MW of critical capacity backed by 2 hours of onsite battery storage. The delivery of these facilities in Bilbao-Arasur, Barcelona and Madrid will be available Q4 of 2023.
