This state-of-the-art data center is ready for waste heat exchange, uses hybrid hydrogen/gas generators for emergency power and will be directly connected to our Region Connect Ring. This will allow customers to take advantage of all the services NorthC has to offer in its data centers.

NorthC Datacenters, the largest regional data center provider in the Netherlands, has commenced construction of a new data center in Eindhoven. The new data center will have a total surface area of over 4,000m2 and will become operational in October 2023.

This will be the second NorthC data center in the Eindhoven/Brabant region of The Netherlands, next to the existing data center at Eindhoven High Tech Campus (HTC), and the company’s twelfth facility in the country and the 17th in Europe.

Equinix ventures into South Africa with $160m data centre investment

Digital infrastructure REIT Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX) will enter the South African market with a US$160 million data centre investment in Johannesburg due to be brought online by mid-2024.

With its South Africa expansion, Equinix is entering one of the largest and most digitally developed nations on the African continent home to several other operators including DigitalBridge (NYSE: DBRG)-backed Vantage Data Centers and long-term rival Digital Realty (NYSE: DLR).

South Africa is the top data centre market in Africa and will witness investments of US$3,228.3 million by 2027, growing at a CAGR of 11.15% during 2022–2027, according to data from Arizton.

The new 4.0 MW Equinix data centre, JN1 as it will be known, will provide 690+ cabinets and more than 20,000 gross square feet of colocation space. The operator added that two additional phases of development are planned.

CapitaLand planning 55MW data center in Chennai, India

CapitaLand has acquired a plot of land in Chennai, India, on which it is planning a 55MW data center.

This week CapitaLand India Trust Management Pte. Ltd., as trustee-manager of CapitaLand India Trust (CLINT, formerly known as Ascendas India Trust), announced that through subsidiary Minerva Veritas Data Centre Private Limited CLINT will invest in and develop a greenfield data center project located on a 4.01-acre freehold site in the Ambattur area of Chennai.

The company aims to build out the site in multiple phases; when completed, it will have a total capacity of 55MW and space for 4,900 racks across 420,000 sq ft and seven stories.

The first phase is set to go live by the end of 2025. CLINT said it would be targeting customers such as global technology companies and cloud service providers, as well as large domestic enterprise clients.

Hyperco to build two 50MW data centers in Helsinki, Finland

Nordic data center firm Hyperco is to expand its presence in Finland with two new sites.

The company this week announced the development of two data center campuses in the Helsinki region, each with an initial capacity of 50MW. Details on timelines or building size weren’t shared. Launched last year, these are the company’s first development projects.

Hyperco said the sites, both located in the Helsinki metropolitan area, can be modularly scaled to up to four times the initial capacity and can utilize renewable energy. Both are planned to utilize waste-heat re-usage to supply local district heating networks.

“These two Nordic sites provide us with the opportunity to develop highly tailored, sustainably delivered solutions for Hyperco clients in need of capacity on this scale,” said Hyperco’s chief commercial officer, Joachim Kauppi. “Strong collaboration with municipalities, utility companies, and private landowners has allowed us to secure the most attractive plots in the region, while our local supply chain expertise will enable fast deployment for our customers.”

Stack acquires another 74 acres in Virginia’s Prince William County

Stack is expanding its presence in Virginia’s Prince William County with the acquisition of more land at one of its campuses.

The company this week announced the purchase of 74 additional acres in the center of Prince William County. The recently acquired land will add 100MW to the now 250MW campus.

The 1.8 million square foot (167,225 sqm) campus is now master planned for seven data centers, including its two newest additions each providing 48MW of capacity.

The site will also include a 300MW dedicated onsite substation, which will supply committed and scalable power from Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC).

BESIX Watpac Breaks Ground on Microsoft’s New Data Center in Melbourne

BESIX Watpac, an Australian construction and civil engineering company, has broken ground on the Garden Drive Microsoft Data Centre, one of three new generation data centers currently under construction in Melbourne, Victoria. 

According to Arizton, a market research and consultancy firm, the Australian data center market is anticipated to reach USD 9.6 billion by 2027, expanding at a CAGR of 7.67% from 2022 to 2027. 

Government initiatives, expanded connectivity, technological advancements, the adoption of HPC technologies, growing cloud presence, and rising data center investments are all contributing to the market’s considerable growth.

JLand Group & Mitsui to Develop Hyperscale Data Center & Captive Solar Farm

JLAND Group (JLG) and Mitsui (Malaysia) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaboratively investigate future business possibilities and strategic project developments in Ibrahim Technopolis (IBTEC) including Sedenak Tech Park (STeP) which will be done over the next two to three years. 

The signing ceremony between JLG and Mitsui, through its wholly owned unit Mitsui & Co (M) Sdn Bhd (Mitsui Malaysia), was witnessed by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi. 

Within the immediate term of the MoU, JLG and Mitsui will perform a collaborative feasibility study on the development of a Hyperscale Data Centre, as well as a renewable energy (RE) facility in the form of a Captive Solar Farm to power the data centers in STeP. 

Following the study’s conclusion, a joint venture (JV) partnership between JLG, Mitsui, and the project’s co-developers will be established to invest in, develop, and manage these projects.

 

New Zealand Data Center Market to Reach $1.87 Billion By 2027: Arizton
