AWS to Invest $5.7bn in Data Centers Across Two Continents; Encounters $4.7bn Delay in Third Region

Amazon Web Services (AWS) announces a significant investment of $5.7 billion in data center infrastructure across two continents, aiming to enhance its global cloud computing capabilities.

Once completed by 2026, the AWS cloud region will consist of three Availability Zones at launch, and provide customers in the Kingdom with low latency and high data transfer rates, whilst having their data stored locally, ensuring compliance with data sovereignty regulations.

However, the company also faces a $4.7 billion delay in the construction of data centers in a third region. Despite this setback, AWS remains committed to expanding its data center footprint to meet the increasing demand for cloud services worldwide.

“Our proposals for a new data center will bring this former industrial site back into employment use,” Microsoft said in the presentation. “Currently the site is being cleared to prepare the area for development. Our proposals represent one plot of the wider site.”

DCI Indonesia Data Center Up and Running in Downtown Jakarta

He said: “We chose E1 because DCI offers the best service quality and certification. We are pleased that our data center at E1 is already operational.”

The E1 data center has been built in collaboration with Indonesian conglomerate Salim Group. An 11-story facility, it offers 18MW of IT capacity across 30,000 sqm (322,920 sq ft) and can accommodate up to 4,000 racks.

The new data center is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and offers reliable connectivity, security, and scalability to meet the evolving needs of customers in the region.

The six-story Keppel DC Singapore 8 has a net lettable area of approximately 100,882 sq ft (9,372 sqm) and is fully leased to clients from the cloud services, Internet, enterprise, and telecommunications sectors.

It is the second of three planned buildings on the Keppel Data Centre Campus at Genting Lane. The first phase of this facility is due to be ready for service in Q3 2024.
