Data4 announces second Spanish campus in Madrid
European data center operator Data4 is building a second Spanish campus outside of the capital city, Madrid.
The company this week announced plans for a new data center campus in San Agustín del Guadalix, a town located north of Madrid, near the Sierra de Guadarrama.
The new MAD02 campus will span four buildings totaling 16,000 square meters of IT space and 80MW. The company aims to invest €530 million ($583.2m) in the project.
Groundbreaking for the first phase of development is scheduled for next month. The first phase is set to launch in 2025, with construction at the campus set to continue until 2029.
EdgeCore to expand Mesa data center campus in Arizona
Wholesale data center developer & operator EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure is expanding its campus in Phoenix, Arizona.
The company this week announced the expansion of its data center campus in Mesa. Specifications of the new building weren’t shared.
At full build-out, EdgeCore’s 40-acre campus will be capable of supporting a minimum of 200MW of critical load across 1.1+ million square feet (102,200 sqm) of space and up to seven buildings.
“Water scarcity is a growing concern in several states, including Arizona. EdgeCore endeavors to make decisions with the good of our environment as well as our customers in mind,” said Jason Evans, VP of energy and sustainability, EdgeCore. “As such, we implemented an air-cooled design in our data centers in Mesa, Arizona, that includes an ultra-efficient close-looped chilled water system, which carries a benchmark water usage effectiveness (WUE) rating below .01 L/kWh—a benefit to both the environment and our tenants’ total cost of ownership.”
New data center gains approval in Auburn, Alabama
A new data center is coming to Auburn City in Alabama.
The Mill Creek Data Center will be 65,700 square feet (6,100 sqm) and sit on 52 acres of greenfield land at 406 West Veterans Blvd in the city’s Auburn Technology Park.
First reported by Opelika-Auburn News, the data center was approved at a City Council meeting this week. Auburn City Manager Megan McGowan-Crouch said the Mill Creek Data Center will bring “very high tech, very high paying” jobs to Auburn.
“They’ll have a limited number of jobs, but they’re excellent jobs,” he said.
Compass Datacenters acquires 375 acres in Red Oak, Texas
Compass Datacenters has acquired 375 acres of undeveloped land in Dallas, Texas, more than doubling its existing landholdings in the area.
Reported by BizJournal as part of its ‘Best Real Estate Deals’ awards, the company acquired the land in Red Oak in south Dallas’ Ellis County.
“This new campus will be big – potentially one of the largest in the nation,” said Edward Bogel, partner with Davidson Bogel Real Estate, whose company brokered the land sale to the data center operator.
The purchase is close to the company’s existing landholding in Red Oak which it acquired in 2019 and currently features two data centers.
DataBank breaks ground on new data center in Atlanta, Georgia
DataBank has broken ground on a new data center site in Atlanta, Georgia, and completed an expansion project in San Deigo, California.
The US company last week announced the groundbreaking of its ATL4 data center in Atlanta. Located at 200 Selig Drive, the colocation facility will feature 200,000 square feet (18,580 sqm) of raised floor space and 4MW of capacity, expandable to 40MW.
DataBank acquired the 18-acre site in May 2022 for a reported $10.9 million. The site seems to have previously belonged to Lathem Time Corporation – a maker of clocks, time cards, and employee tracking systems.
Once completed, ATL4 will be linked via dark fiber to DataBank’s ATL2 and ATL3 facilities.
Polish software firm Comarch launches data center in Phoenix, Arizona
Polish software firm Comarch has launched its first data center in the US.
The company this week announced the opening of its new 32,000 square foot (3,000 sqm) data center in the Mesa area of Phoenix, Arizona.
The new data center currently houses four server rooms with 160 racks and will offer services including managed services, cloud hosting, colocation, disaster recovery, and backup services. It will also offer meet-me rooms (MMR).
“The opening of the new data center in Phoenix is part of Comarch’s global expansion strategy, which aims to provide innovative and scalable IT solutions to clients across a wide range of industries,” the company said. “With its advanced infrastructure and commitment to security and reliability, the new facility is poised to become a leading provider of data storage and processing services in the region.”
Virtus expands into mainland Europe, plans Berlin campus
UK operator Virtus Data Centres is expanding internationally and is going to build a campus in Berlin, Germany.
The company this week announced plans to expand into continental Europe with the construction of its first data center campus outside of the UK.
The new data center, Virtus Berlin 1, will be built in Marienpark Berlin in the south of the city and is set to be operational in 2026.
The new campus will consist of four buildings with a total of at least 90MVA of power. The company said the facilities will be designed to serve hyperscale, government, and enterprise customers and will provide a range of hosting and cloud services.
DartPoints acquires Venyu, adds three Louisiana data centres
Dartpoints, a provider of colocation, cloud and cybersecurity services for edge markets has acquired Louisiana’s Venyu – a data centre infrastructure and cloud services provider.
The acquisition brings DartPoints’ portfolio to 11 data centres across 10 US markets, five states and three regions, with over 325,000 square feet of space and 20MW of power.
“We are thrilled to now serve hundreds of enterprises and service provider customers in Louisiana and around the country by way of three top-tier data centres in Baton Rouge and Shreveport,” said Scott Willis, CEO of DartPoints.
“Serving edge markets is where our passion and expertise lie, and this acquisition expands our geographic coverage to a third region: the South-Central U.S.”
GPX Global Systems plans 4x expansion of data center in Cairo, Egypt
Data center firm GPX Global Systems is to expand one of its data centers in Cairo, Egypt.
The company this week announced a new investment of EGP 2.7 billion ($87.4m) to expand its Cairo 2 data center which will add an additional 12MW of power and 9,000 sqm to the site.
GPX currently operates two facilities in Cairo, the first of which opened in 2007. Cairo 2, launched in 2015, currently spans 3,000 sqm (32,290 sq ft) and 5MW. The expansion will bring GPX’s total equipped space in the Cairo market to 12,600 sqm (135,625 sq ft).

Google to build two more data centers in Columbus, Ohio
Google is expanding its data center footprint around Columbus, Ohio.
The search and cloud company this week announced plans to build two more data centers in Columbus and Lancaster.
The company has one facility operational in the New Albany area of Columbus. The two new locations will bring Google’s total investment in Ohio to more than $2 billion, officials said.
“Ohio is a growing technology hub and data center market, and we welcome these two new Google projects in Columbus and Lancaster to complement the one already in New Albany,” Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said in a statement.
