Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta to Launch First India Mega Data Centre

Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is set to establish its first mega data center in India. This strategic move underscores Meta’s commitment to expanding its digital infrastructure to support the rapidly growing user base and digital economy in India.

In terms of data compliance, this move aligns with India’s stringent new data protection laws. On the user experience front, the new data centre is expected to enhance the responsiveness and efficiency of Indian users on Facebook (314.6 million), Instagram (350 million), and WhatsApp (480 million).

The data center is expected to facilitate the delivery of Meta’s services and applications to users across the country while also contributing to India’s digital transformation efforts.

GDS Joins Forces with Gaw Capital for 40MW Tokyo Data Center Campus

GDS, a leading data center provider, has announced a collaboration with Gaw Capital to develop a 40MW data center campus in Tokyo, Japan. This partnership signifies GDS’s commitment to expanding its presence in key Asian markets and meeting the increasing demand for digital infrastructure.

The proposed data center campus, located in Fuchu, West Tokyo, responds to the increasing need for secure, scalable, and modern digital infrastructure in Japan. Gaw Capital Partners, through a fund under its management, has acquired two adjacent data center sites within Fuchu Intelligent Park, an established data center cluster near central Tokyo.

The Tokyo data center campus is poised to offer state-of-the-art facilities and services to support the digital transformation initiatives of enterprises in the region.

Evoque and Cyxtera Unveil New Combined Entity, CenterSquare

Evoque and Cyxtera have revealed the creation of a new combined entity named CenterSquare. This merger brings together the strengths and capabilities of both companies to provide enhanced data center solutions and services to their customers.

Centersquare brings together Evoque and Cyxtera’s robust infrastructure solutions and expansive data centre portfolios. The acquisition of Cyxtera by Evoque Data Center Solutions, completed in early 2024, creating a strong market player with presence in 17 markets, largely across North America.

“With this launch, we bring to the market 320MW in over 50 data centre locations, and an additional 100MW of near-term under-roof expansion areas, under the Centersquare banner,” said Udhay Mathialagan, chairman of the board at Centersquare and CEO of global data centres at Brookfield Infrastructure.

CenterSquare aims to leverage its expanded footprint and resources to address the evolving needs of enterprises for reliable and scalable digital infrastructure.

NTT Plans Third Berlin Data Center Campus

NTT, a global technology services provider, has announced plans to develop its third data center campus in Berlin, Germany. This expansion initiative reflects NTT’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for data center services in Europe and supporting the digital transformation efforts of businesses in the region.

This new campus will be built on a 10.8-hectare (26.6-acre) plot, with construction work to start in 2025.

“Berlin is an important market in our growing portfolio and expansion plans,” said Doug Adams, CEO and president of NTT Global Data Centers. “This new development strengthens our presence and paves the way for further entry into Tier 2 markets, facilitating our sustained growth and leadership in the data center industry as we continue to meet our clients’ needs.”

NTT Data currently operates 48 data centers in seven countries in the EMEA, with more than 429MW of critical IT load and 212MW of planned expansion.

The new campus is expected to offer cutting-edge facilities and services to cater to the diverse needs of customers.

DataBank Acquires Leased Data Center in Las Vegas, Nevada

DataBank, a leading provider of enterprise-class data center solutions, has acquired a leased data center facility in Las Vegas, Nevada. This strategic acquisition strengthens DataBank’s presence in the Las Vegas market and enhances its ability to serve the needs of customers seeking reliable and secure data center services in the region.

The data center was previously owned by the Thomas & Mack Development Group. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“DataBank’s investment in this property aligns with our strategy of owning the largest Edge data center footprint in the US,” said DataBank CEO, Raul K. Martynek. “By completing this purchase, DataBank is responding to Las Vegas’ need for colocation, connectivity, and cloud services, while solidifying our status as a prime location for mission-critical workloads serving the Las Vegas area.”

The facility is expected to complement DataBank’s existing portfolio and support its growth strategy.

Malaysia’s AIMS Completes Second Expansion in Cyberjaya, Announces Third Expansion

AIMS, a leading data center provider in Malaysia, has completed its second expansion in Cyberjaya and announced plans for a third expansion. These expansion efforts underscore AIMS’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for data center services in Malaysia and supporting the country’s digital economy.

The company also said that it is set to start construction of Cyberjaya Block 3, with completion anticipated by the second quarter of 2025. Block 3 will offer 12MW.

AIMS CEO, Chiew Kok Hin, said: “We are thrilled at the take-up rate achieved in AIMS Cyberjaya Block 2. Given that Block 2 is a high-power density data center that can achieve up to 20kW per rack at the highest range, we are very proud of the innovations we implemented to ensure sustainability and energy efficiency.”

The expansions are poised to enhance AIMS’s capacity to deliver reliable and innovative data center solutions to its customers.

CyrusOne Plans $150M Data Center in New Albany, Ohio

CyrusOne, a prominent data center REIT, has announced plans to invest $150 million in the construction of a new data center in New Albany, Ohio. This significant investment underscores CyrusOne’s commitment to expanding its presence in key markets and meeting the increasing demand for data center services.

CyrusOne was awarded a 10-year 75 percent data center sales tax exemption valued at $5.4m by the Ohio Tax Credit Authority on April 1. This will apply to sales and use taxes associated with data center equipment purchases. CyrusOne is required to maintain operations at the site until the end of that exemption term.

In addition to the sales tax, the property is within a “community reinvestment area” meaning that it benefits from a maximum 15-year 100 percent real property tax abatement if an agreement is made between the city and CyrusOne. The new facility is expected to feature state-of-the-art infrastructure and support the digital growth initiatives of enterprises in the region.
